SINGAPORE - Several roads and bridges will be fully or partially closed between 6pm on New Year's Eve and 2am the following day.
This is to facilitate the New Year's Eve countdown in the Marina Bay area.
Police officers, auxiliary police officers and security officers will be deployed for crowd and traffic control duties. Bags and personal items may be checked, and the public should cooperate and follow the instructions of officers, said the police in a statement on Tuesday.
Police advise the public to look after their belongings at all times, to be cautious of strangers when approached, to stay close to friends and to move in groups, and to avoid contact with unruly crowds. They are also reminded to stay vigilant against crime, such as molestation or theft.
The number of people entering The Promontory, One Fullerton, Merlion Park, Esplanade Park, Esplanade Waterfront Promenade, Marina Bay Sands Promenade and other areas within the vicinity of Marina Bay will be regulated by auxiliary police officers to prevent overcrowding.
Several bridges will have restricted access. The public will not be allowed to congregate on Esplanade Bridge and the footway is to be used for transit only. The footway along Benjamin Sheares Bridge will be closed to pedestrians from 6pm on Dec 31 to 1am on Jan 1.
Vehicular traffic direction on the carriageway of Temasek Avenue in the direction of Bayfront Avenue will be reversed to aid in crowd dispersal between 11.30pm and 1.30am the following day.
