Commuters in the Central Business District will be able to enjoy a new bus terminal off Shenton Way with facilities like bicycle parking spaces and barrier-free toilets. It will open on June 25, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said yesterday.
The terminal is located off Shenton Way, next to Bestway Building and directly opposite the Monetary Authority of Singapore building. It will replace the bus terminal in Palmer Road. All 12 bus services operating from the existing terminal will operate from the new one. Commuters will be able to board buses there, which is not allowed at the existing terminal.
The new terminal also has a priority queue zone and barrier-free toilets, to cater to the elderly and those who are less mobile. It also has 150 bicycle parking spaces for commuters cycling to and from the Shenton Way area. There are also better facilities for bus captains and staff, such as dedicated staff toilets and an air-conditioned staff lounge, and a green roof, providing additional greenery among the high-rise developments in the area.
Several other changes will take effect on June 25, including a full-day bus lane along Shenton Way, outside the new terminal. The lane will operate between 7.30am and 11pm on weekdays and Saturdays, except public holidays.
The 12 bus services operating from the new terminal will not call at the two bus stops along Palmer Road. Instead, the first boarding point for outbound services will be at the new bus terminal while the final alighting point for inbound services will be the bus stop directly outside the new terminal.
Information on the changes can be found on the online and social media sites of LTA, SBS Transit, SMRT and Tower Transit.
