New CEO for Tote Board and director-general for Singapore Customs from Jan 1

Mr Fong Yong Kian, director-general of Singapore Customs, will become chief executive of the Singapore Totalisator Board from Jan 1, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement on Thursday.

He takes over from Mr Tan Soo Nan, who has been chief executive of the Tote Board since 2007. Under his leadership, the Tote Board redefined its grant-giving practices and introduced new programmes for the not-for-profit sector. This includes scholarships for senior management of non-profit organisations.

Mr Ho Chee Pong, the senior director of human capital in the public service division of the Prime Minister's Office, will take over as director-general of Singapore Customs from Jan 1.

Mr Fong had held the post since 2008. During his stint, Singapore Customs established an academy which offers a range of courses designed for the trade and logistics community, said MOF. It also introduced several business-friendly initiatives to facilitate legitimate trade flows, including TradeFIRST and TradeXchange.
