SINGAPORE - Two new groups of households will soon be asked to participate in an ongoing survey to collect data on household income and expenditure for this month and the next.

The survey groups include areas in Bukit Panjang, Downtown Core, Kallang, Newton, Orchard, Queenstown, Rochor, Sengkang, Seletar, Tampines and Yishun.

These selected households form the 11th and 12th groups in the 11th Household Expenditure Survey (HES), said the Singapore Department of Statistics (DOS) in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 13).

In total, 13,100 households will be surveyed over a one-year period, from October 2017 to September. The households are divided into 26 groups.

The survey, which is conducted once every five years, collects detailed information on households' expenditure, socio-economic characteristics, and ownership of consumer durables.

Data collected will be used to facilitate studies on household income and expenditure patterns, and in the compilation of the Consumer Price Index, the statement said.

Survey officers will carry identification cards and letters of authorisation issued by DOS during their visits to the selected households.

Those who wish to verify the identity of the survey officers may call the HES hotline on 1800-888-1718 from 9am to 10pm on weekdays and 10am to 10pm on weekends.

The data will be kept confidential in accordance with the Statistics Act, said the statement.
