SINGAPORE - The National Day Parade (NDP) 2025 executive committee (Exco) will never ask the public or organisations for cash sponsorship, donations or personal details over the phone, organisers of Singapore’s birthday bash said on June 28.
In an advisory on its official Facebook page NDPeeps, the NDP 2025 Exco said it is aware of scammers pretending to be representatives from NDP 2025 and calling potential victims to solicit cash sponsorships and personal information.
“Do not disclose any personal, business, or sponsorship information if you are unsure of the caller’s identity or credibility,” the advisory said.
In a recording of a phone call the NDP 2025 Exco shared with The Straits Times, a scammer is heard impersonating an NDP 2025 representative and asking a man for a “small sponsorship of between $300 and $500”.
The money – which the scammer said would be exempted from tax – would be used to help NDP 2025 and future editions run successfully.
The scammer added that an award would be presented to the man’s company, and invited him to bring his friends and family to the parade.
When the man asked for the name of the organisation the money would be donated to, the scammer replied: “The Singapore National Day board committee.”
The NDP 2025 Exco said that the phone call was made in June.
The police confirmed that one report regarding this scam variant was lodged.
If members of the public or organisations are unsure if something is a scam, they can write to ndp@defence.gov.sg
The NDP on Aug 9 will be held at the Padang and Marina Bay.
