National Family Council reaches out to more young people with new youth sub-committee

A new youth sub-committee under the National Family Council was launched on Wednesday at a media conference to unveil the committee's plans for this year's National Family Celebrations 2013.

The committee comprises 24 members from various tertiary institutions in Singapore. This year, the council is targeting to reach out to 30,000 youth, up from 12,000 last year.

"Given the challenges which the family faces in contemporary Singapore, it is vital that our youth take ownership of the family. The youth are helping us bridge the gap between my generation and their generation," said Mr Lim Soon Hock, chairman of the council.

The month-long celebrations will kick off on May 29 at *Scape warehouse, with performances by local band The Sam Williows, Derrick Hoh and Jack & Rai.

More than 15,000 free tickets will be given away to the public for attractions such as Gardens By the Bay and RWS Marine Life Park on Family Day Out, the closing event on June 29 at the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade.
