Singapore is tightening rules on social interactions and limiting visitor arrivals from four additional countries, as part of new measures to tackle the growing number of Covid-19 cases in the community. Among other things, this means stricter limits on the number of people who can be present in malls and attractions.

Students at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) will take a shorter route to the Higher Nitec certificate as part of a modified curriculum that will kick in from next year. Some 16 ITE courses will merge into eight and students signing up for them will go straight through to the Higher Nitec course and graduate in three years.

India's effort to ramp up its vaccination programme to cover everyone above the age of 18 from today is in disarray. Many people were unsuccessful in registering for the jab, while those who managed to do so were unable to locate vaccination centres. Several states have requested more time to expand the programme, saying they do not have adequate supplies of vaccines.

At least 44 people were crushed to death yesterday at an overcrowded religious bonfire festival in Israel, medics said. The crush occurred as an estimated 100,000 ultra-orthodox Jews thronged the Galilee tomb of second-century sage Rabbi Shim Bar Yochai for annual Lag B'Omer commemorations.

The families of pre-schoolers with developmental needs can look forward to more professional and targeted support within the schools in the coming years. Inclusion coordinators will be appointed at the more than 1,900 pre-schools here and there will be a roll-out of more inclusive education training opportunities for teachers.

To seize new opportunities in a post-Covid-19 world, Singapore's 23 industry transformation maps will be refreshed as part of a new plan over the next five years. Dubbed ITM 2025, it will be strengthened by three new thrusts, including greater focus on jobs and skills.
