SINGAPORE - The Muslim Converts' Association of Singapore gave out more than $170,000 in aid to needy families on Sunday morning.

Also known as Darul Arqam Singapore, the association gave 562 families $265 in cash and $40 in NTUC vouchers each to help them during the fasting month. In all, $171,410 was doled out.

Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, presented the money to some families at the event. Last year, the association gave out $194,250 to 555 families.

Besides this annual disbursement during the fasting month of Ramadan, the association also provides short-term monthly assistance to selected families that face financial difficulties.
