Muis names new CEO who will take over from Aug 7

The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) will be headed by new chief executive Abdul Razak Hassan Maricar from Aug 7, announced Minister in charge of Muslim Affairs Dr Yaacob Ibrahim on Friday.

Mr Abdul Razak was secretary of Muis from 2007.

Current full-time president Alami Musa, who has held the position for a decade, will guide Muis as president in a non-executive capacity when the changes take effect.

The chief executive position was created in 2005 with the amendment of the Administration of Muslim Law Act, but will take effect only from Aug 7.

The changes will align Muis to the practices of other statutory boards, said Dr Yaacob at an appreciation dinner for current council members on Friday.
