Maritime safety conference launches today
To raise maritime safety awareness and instil a safety-first culture, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore is launching the first International Safety@Sea Conference today (Aug 30). The conference will bring together over 30 international speakers and industry experts from different sectors of the maritime industry to share best safety at sea practices with more than 350 local and international participants.
Canadian PM Trudeau to visit China
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrives today in China for his first official visit to the country, seeking to reset relations and boost economic ties with Canada's second-largest trading partner. During his 10-day trip, he will swing through Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Hangzhou, where he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and attend the Group of 20 summit. He will also go on a charm offensive, planning to tour the Great Wall, shoot hoops with basketball star Yao Ming and reach out to locals via social media platforms WeChat and Weibo
Public forum on India to be held today
The Institute of South Asian Studies and the Ananta Aspen Centre are holding a public forum today on "India: A Bright Spark in a Gloomy World Economy?". The forum will be chaired by the co-chairmen of the India-Singapore Strategic Dialogue: Professor Tommy Koh, Ambassador-at-Large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Mr Jamshyd Godrej, chairman, Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Company India.
