From January, more surgical procedures will be covered under Medisave and MediShield, the Health Ministry (MOH) said in a statement on Wednesday.
The number of procedures will increase to 2,350, up from 1,600, and will include new treatment methods that are more common now. One example is the maze surgery which is used to correct abnormal heart rhythm.
The MOH has also refined the classification of current procedures to reflect their complexity. For instance, total knee replacement is now divided into three sub-categories: whether it is open surgery; requires an additional implant or bone graft; or if the patient had a previous replacement.
Members of the public may refer to the MOH website for the full list of updated procedures.
