More car buyers can bid for certificates of entitlement (COEs) from next month to January 2014, as the Government bumps up the quota for all categories of cars.
A total of 3,471 COEs will be available between August and next January, up from 3,211 for the six-month period before that.
The new figures released by the Land Transport Authority on Friday showed an increase in all categories except for motorcycles, where the monthly quota will be 961, down from 1,012 previously.
For Category A (cars up to 1,600cc), the monthly quota is 728, up from 667 previously. For Category B (cars above 1,600cc), the supply goes up from 605 to 746. In the Open category, the monthly supply will increase from 476 to 522.
The new quota takes into account a 0.5 per cent vehicle growth based on the vehicle population as of Dec 31, 2012, which stood at 916,284. It also considers replacement COEs for vehicles de-registered between January and June of this year, and adjustments for change in taxi population, expired COEs and overall projections of vehicle de-registrations in 2008/2009.
