SINGAPORE – The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is investigating the sinking of a moored dredger off Tuas.

A dredger is a specialised vessel that is equipped to remove and relocate materials from the bottom of a water body.

In a media release on April 14, the authority said it was alerted to the sinking at about 1.30pm the same day. Three MPA patrol crafts have been deployed to the site to provide assistance.

No personnel were reported to be on board the Belize-registered vessel, KSE Hitachi, at the time of the incident, MPA said.

Port operations remain unaffected, and a navigational broadcast has been made to advise passing vessels to keep clear of the area, MPA added.

The dredger’s company is also making arrangements to salvage the vessel.
