A series of benchmarks indicating how much anaesthetists and doctors in various ward settings should charge were announced by the Ministry of Health yesterday.
It said the benchmarks should give patients a better idea of the range of fees that could be considered reasonable for surgery and hospital stays, and allow them to make better informed decisions.
They are also aimed at ensuring healthcare costs remain affordable.
