Workers' Party MP Sylvia Lim (Aljunied GRC) yesterday said the Government had given the misleading impression that it based its decision on counting of terms to trigger a reserved election on legal advice from the Attorney-General. It should have made clear this was a policy decision, she said.

In response, Law and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam said the Government has always been clear the decision to start the count from President Wee Kim Wee was a policy matter. He added it is a matter of clear law that President Wee exercised the powers of an elected president in his second term.
