Minister for Social and Family Development, Chan Chun Sing, will be attending the 8th Asean Ministerial Meeting for Social Welfare and Development on Friday. The meeting will be held in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

He will join ministers from 10 Asean member states at the meeting, which is held every three years and looks at welfare and development issues in the Asean region.

This year's theme revolves around developing social policies and programmes to meet emerging needs of vulnerable groups including children, persons with disabilities and the elderly.

The meeting will also consider and adopt the draft Asean declaration on strengthening social protection, and the draft declaration on the elimination of violence against women and violence against children in Asean.
