SINGAPORE - The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will be conducting military exercises at 16 places across the island from 8am on Monday, Feb 9, to 8am on Feb 16.

Blanks and thunderflashes will be used for the exercises at Seletar, Marsiling, Jalan Bahar, Neo Tiew, Lim Chu Kang, Jalan Kwok Min, Tuas, Upper Jurong, Hong Kah, Ama Keng, Bedok Jetty, Kranji, Lentor, Simpang, Sembawang and Mandai, the Defence Ministry (Mindef) announced on Friday.

The SAF will also be conducting Live Firing Exercises using live ammunition and flares in the Pasir Laba (SAFTI) Live Firing Area during the same period.

Sea vessels and crafts sailing through the Western Johor Straits during the exercises are to keep within the 75m navigable sea lane and not to stray into the live firing boundary, Mindef said.

The public is advised not to be alarmed and to keep clear of these areas.

In Friday's statement, Mindef also reminded the public to keep clear of the islands of Pulau Sudong, Pulau Senang and Pulau Pawai, as they have been proclaimed manoeuvring and firing grounds. People should also stay clear of the prohibited waters off Changi Naval Base and Tuas Naval Base.

Mindef also said that there will be increased flying activities and loud notices as the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) is undergoing a military exercise that will end on Feb 13. The RSAF will also conduct daily Live Firing exercises around Pulau Sudong, Pulau Pawai and Pulau Senang from Feb 9 to Feb 13, from 7am to 11pm and on Feb 14, from 8am to 1pm.

Flares will be released during the night firing.

The public is advised to keep clear of Pulau Pawai, Pulau Senang and Pulau Sudong which lie within the Live Firing Areas.
