Telegram services back up, hours after thousands report outage

SINGAPORE – Services of messaging app Telegram have resumed in Singapore, hours after thousands of users reported experiencing a service outage on the morning of Sept 8.
The outage numbers were recorded on Downdetector, a website tracking outages by collating status reports from various sources.
By 6pm, Telegram services appear to be back up for most users, with the number of reports on Downdetector falling to 60.
Users began reporting issues with Telegram at around 10.20am, when over 1,500 reports were made.
The number of reports peaked at nearly 4,000, just after 10.30am.
Users in other South-east Asian countries experienced similar outages in the morning, spiking at around 10.30am.
At its peak, there were 1,284 reports from Indonesia, 933 from the Philippines, 725 from India, 544 from Malaysia, 530 from Vietnam and 253 from Thailand.
As at 11.30am, reports from Singapore went down to about 350 on Downdetector.
The number started going up again in the early afternoon, with more than 2,200 reports just before 2pm. It dropped sharply to 279 about 30 minutes later.
According to the website, about half of the users were experiencing problems with Telegram’s app, 43 per cent were experiencing issues with messaging and 7 per cent had difficulty logging in.
