Merlion to undergo cleaning, maintenance works on Feb 11 and 12

SINGAPORE – The Merlion statue at Merlion Park, located at One Fullerton, will be unavailable for photo-taking from Feb 11 to 12 as it will be undergoing cleaning and maintenance.
While these works are being carried out, the tourist attraction will be covered in scaffolding, said the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) on Jan 6. It added that the public can take photos with the nearby Merlion cub statue at Merlion Park.
“We seek the public’s understanding as the works and barricades may cause some inconvenience during this period,” said STB.
It said in response to The Straits Times’ queries that a sign will be placed on-site on the actual days of the works, and that STB would also post the media advisory on its Trust website to inform travel agents and tour guides about the closure in advance.
The iconic half-lion, half-fish statue, which spouts water, previously underwent repair works in 2023, from July 29 to Aug 2.
Standing at 8.6m and weighing 70 tonnes, the Merlion statue was originally located at the mouth of the Singapore River when it was unveiled in 1972 by then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.
