Thousands of people took part in a mass singing session of classic songs known as xinyao (Singapore songs) at a readers' engagement event yesterday organised by Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao.

Held at the Marina Barrage, the free event led participants on a walk down memory lane, with retro games such as capteh (shuttlecock kicking) and stalls selling local food.

Veteran xinyao singer-songwriter Liang Wern Fook was present at the singalong session, together with Singapore singers such as Chen Weilian, Tay Kewei, Alfred Sim and Huang Jinglun.
