SINGAPORE - A 23-year-old construction worker died in an industrial accident on Tuesday evening after he was buried by soil.
The man was erecting formwork at AJW Construction's worksite along Bright Hill Crescent when soil behind him collapsed and buried him, a Ministry of Manpower (MOM) spokesman said.
Formwork is temporary or permanent moulds into which concrete or other materials are poured.
Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers who arrived at about 6.25pm found the worker buried waist-deep in earth. He was extracted but paramedics later pronounced him dead at the scene.
The MOM has asked AJW Construction to stop all work at the site. Officers from the MOM's Occupational Safety and Health Inspectorate are also carrying out investigations.
AJW Construction declined to comment when contacted by The Straits Times on Wednesday. A staff member who answered the phone said in Mandarin that the company "is still handling the matter" and was unable to share details.
