Thirty-two workers have lost their lives on the job so far this year, the Manpower Ministry confirmed yesterday, as the spate of accidents that has plagued worksites this year continues.

Four of the deaths took place after tougher penalties for errant employers were announced on May 12.

Yesterday, a worker in his 50s died at 11, Kee Seng Street, a day after a 23-year-old Bangladeshi construction worker was killed by a falling steel truss in Mandai.

The death toll so far this year is six more than in the same period last year.
