Man jailed nine months for sexual offences with girl, 13

A man was jailed for nine months on Wednesday for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.

Muhammad Ramadan Asni, 25, admitted to two charges of having oral and anal sex with the girl in February 2011 at staircase landings of HDB blocks. Two other charges were considered during his sentencing.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Elizabeth Chua told the court that the pair were introduced by a mutual friend in 2010.

Ramadan and the girl, a student, would meet in the course of their friendship. On one occasion, the student had shown him her EZ-Link card. He knew that she was only 13.

The offences came to light after the girl lodged a police report in August that year admitting she had consensual sex with six different men between January and July.

One of them, a 17-year-old, had been given probation for sex with the minor, while two others, aged 20 and 23, were given two months and three months' jail respectively for sex with the girl under 16.

Ramadan could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined on each of the two charges.
