A man who caused hurt to another and wrongfully confined him with two accomplices was jailed on Monday for six months 10 weeks.

Rashpreet Singh Sidhu, then unemployed, was also banned from driving for two years for driving without a licence. Now a debt collector, the 27-year-old admitted to five of 13 charges.

The court heard that his accomplice, Adison Andeny, 41, had sought his help and that of Jai Ganesan Balakrishnan, 25, to recover money from Mr Ahmad Hadi Edward, 41, the former boyfriend of Adison's girlfriend Veronica Lathar Naidu, 42.

The trio confined Mr Ahmad Hadi at Jai's Punggol Place flat between Sept 13 and 14 last year. While in the flat, they punched and kicked him.

Rashpreet had also used a kitchen knife to poke at Mr Ahmad Hadi's right index finger, causing a cut.

Ms Naidu had told Adison that she had spent about $130,000 on Mr Ahmad Hadi, including two car loans, while they were in a relationship.

Adison told Mr Ahmad Hadi to write an IOU note for $130,000 and apply for a bank loan to pay back Ms Naidu.

The trio informed him that they were going to hold on to his car and motorcycle until he obtained the loan and repaid Ms Naidu. They drove him back to his place to retrieve the motorcycle key. Jai drove the motorcycle from the carpark while Rashpreet drove the complainant's car to the latter's office to get his payslip before proceeding to apply for the bank loan. Rashpreet had no licence to drive at the time.

Earlier this month, Adison was jailed for seven months three weeks while Jai was given six months nine weeks. Both were also banned from driving for two years.
