An unemployed man who molested a teenager and a woman within a week last April was sentenced to 12 months' jail on Thursday.

Budiman Tarmidi, 22, who is of borderline intelligence, had admitted to molesting the 22-year-old woman and the 15-year-old student at HDB staircase landings on April 12 and April 17, respectively.

The court heard that Budiman followed the 22-year-old woman after they both alighted at Bukit Gombak MRT station.

While she was walking to a supermarket, he caught up with the victim and tried to strike a conversation with her.

She tried to fend him off by showing him the engagement ring she was wearing but he did not give up. He continued to tail her after she had bought her groceries. She headed for her flat in Bukit Batok.

When she was at a staircase landing, he rushed up to her and seized her by the neck. While she was struggling, he kissed her on the neck and licked her ear.

He covered her mouth after she shouted at him, During the struggle, she bit him. He then released her and ran off.

Five days later, he saw the 15-year-old student, who was about to enter a lift, at the void deck of her block in Woodlands.

He hurried up to the fourth floor and pressed the lift button, with the intention of catching up with her in the lift. When the lift opened, he got in and kept staring at the victim.

After the lift ascended to the 11th floor, they got out. At the staircase, he pushed and held her down. When she screamed, he covered her mouth, and touched her thigh and private part area.

As the victim continued to scream loudly, he released her and ran down the stairs. He was arrested at his home the next day.

District Judge Siva Shanmugam suggested to defence counsel Vinit Chhabra to help ensure that his client gets the necessary treatment and counselling.
