The man seen looking on during a fight among three St Hilda's Secondary School students is not a teacher, the school has clarified.
He is an intern with an external agency that the school had hired, said vice-principal Tan Yee Leng yesterday in response to queries from The Straits
In a video that has gone viral online, two boys confront a third in a classroom. The man, seen standing in the background, does not intervene as the boys
punch and hurl vulgarities at each other. Miss Tan said the school was aware of the incident, which happened on Monday.
''(The man) chanced upon the incident when walking along the corridor, and had called out to the students to stop the fight but they did not heed him,''
she said. ''Since he is not one of our teachers, he would not have the training or authority to manage the situation.''
The school has counselled the students and applied ''appropriate disciplinary measures'', she said.
Their parents have also been contacted. Miss Tan added: ''We take all incidents of fighting seriously, and we are confident that our teachers will be able
to manage and correct inappropriate behaviour.''
