SINGAPORE - A man was caught on camera allegedly stealing a phone by hiding it in his pants in Ang Mo Kio on Wednesday (March 7).

According to a video sent to Stomp, the man made a couple of glances at the phone while walking in and out of the shop.

He was then seen walking out of the shop to talk to the shop owner.

According to the owner's daughter, identified only as Jocelyn, the man asked the owner for drinks that were not sold at the shop.

"He then insisted that she could get any drink for him available in the shop," she told Stomp.

In the video, as the owner was going into the shop to prepare the drink, the man grabbed a phone from the table and stuffed it in his shorts.

After the video was cut off, the owner shouted at the man to return the phone, but the man then ran "full speed" towards Ang Mo Kio Hub, said Jocelyn.

The phone was last tracked at Block 703, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, she added.

Police said they were alerted to a case of theft-in-dwelling at Block 213, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, on Wednesday at 12.28am.

Police investigations are ongoing.
