Man drowns along Collyer Quay, near The Fullerton Bay Hotel

SINGAPORE - An area near The Fullerton Bay Hotel was cordoned off by police officers on Tuesday (June 6) afternoon in a search and rescue attempt, but the man they were rescuing drowned in the water along Collyer Quay.

A contributor to citizen journalism site Stomp said he noticed a few fire engines and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers running towards the Singapore river at about 3.30pm.

SCDF told The Straits Times that they were alerted to an incident of a man drowning at 80 Collyer Quay at 3.15pm.

Officers from SCDF's disaster assistance and rescue team conducted an underwater search and retrieved the body at around 4.30pm.
