Man charged with murder in Toa Payoh market 12 years ago

A man was charged in court on Thursday with a murder in Toa Payoh which happened 12 years ago.

Eng Bak Siong, 59, is alleged to have been with five others when he caused the death of Mr Peng Teck Hoe, 32, a painter, at the second level of a market at Block 127 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh on Feb 21, 2001.

He was arrested by the Royal Malaysia Police on July 7, and was handed over to the Singapore authorities in connection with the case.

Eng is remanded at Central Police Division for a week for investigations. The next mention of the case is on July 25. If convicted, he faces the death penalty.
