Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for the theft of gold bracelets at a goldsmith shop.
On Sunday at about 7.20pm, the suspect went into a goldsmith shop in the vicinity of Geylang Road. While the shop assistant was showing the suspect gold bracelets, he fled taking with him the three bracelets amounting to $8,500.
The suspect was arrested on Monday at about 10pm near Canberra Link. The bracelets were recovered. He will be charged for theft. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.
A police spokesman in a statement on Tuesday advised shop owners to install good quality closed-circuit televisions and to remain alert when showing expensive goods such as jewellery to customers.
