Man arrested for series of thefts from vehicles in Bukit Merah

Police have arrested a 41-year-old man who is believed to have committed a series of thefts from vehicles.

Between April 1 and April 7, the police received reports of items taken from cars in the vicinity of Jalan Membina and Kim Tiam Place. Investigations by officers from the Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre led to the suspect's arrest at Bukit Batok Crescent on April 17 at about 10 am. Items that were reported stolen including two bottles of perfume, a pair of spectacles and a Global Positioning System device were recovered from the suspect.

The suspect is believed to have been involved in at least three cases of theft from vehicles. If convicted he faces a jail term of up to three years imprisonment, or a fine, or both.

In a statement on Wednesday, the police advised vehicle owners to secure their vehicle windows and doors at all times, to avoid keeping valuables in their vehicles, and to refrain from leaving personal items and bags visible in their vehicle.
