Police arrested a 23-year-old man on Thursday morning for allegedly molesting a female victim in a lift of a Housing Board block along Jurong West Street 65.

A police statement on Thursday said that after the 27-year-old victim made a report on Monday night, officers from Jurong Police Division followed up to ascertain the identity and trace the whereabouts of the suspect. The suspect was arrested at about 9am on Thursday near Joo Koon MRT station.

If convicted, he may be jailed for a term of not less than three years and up to a maximum of 10 years. He may also be liable for caning.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim advises victims who encounter such situations to remain calm, to take note of the suspect's physical descriptions, and to call the police as soon as it is safe to do so.
