Man arrested for attempting to bribe four police officers

A 22-year-old man was arrested for attempting to bribe four police officers who had detained him for trespassing on the premises of a factory near Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 1 last Sunday.

Police said in a statement on Wednesday that they were alerted to the case at about 3.40am that day after the suspect was found on the premises by security officers on patrol. As the suspect was being guided into the police car, he offered all the money he had on him to the four officers on scene in exchange for them letting him go, said the statement.

The bribery attempt was flatly rejected by the officers, who then escorted the suspect back to Ang Mo Kio Police Divisional Headquarters.

Investigations into the suspect's alleged trespassing are ongoing. If convicted, he could face an imprisonment term of up to three months, or with a fine which may extend to $3,000, or both. The Corrupt Practices Investigations Bureau is conducting separate investigations into the suspect's attempt to bribe the police officers.
