Man arrested for allegedly robbing old woman of gold chain at knifepoint in Marsiling

The police has arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of robbing an elderly woman at knifepoint in her HDB flat in Marsiling.

The victim - a 77-year-old woman - was alone at her home along Marsiling Drive on Jan 29 when the man approached her unit. He got the woman to open the door by asking for water, but later pointed a knife at her and robbed her of her gold chain.

Officers from the Jurong Police Division managed to establish the suspect's identity and arrested him at Tuas Check Point on Wednesday.

The man will be charged in court on Friday for armed robbery, for which he can be given up to 10 years in prison and as many as 12 strokes of the cane.

Mr Wilson Lim, commander of Jurong Police Division, advises members of the public not to open the door to strangers. They should call the police if any suspicious visitor turns up outside their homes.
