In another case of alleged molest on public transportation, the police have arrested a 53-year-old man who is believed to have molested a 12-year-old girl on a bus.

The incident happened on July 30 at about 6.30 am when the bus was in Punggol Central. The police in a statement on Wednesday said that an alert member of the public became suspicious when he noticed that the man sat beside the girl after boarding the bus despite the availability of other empty seats.

The member of the public then alerted the driver immediately after the victim started to fidget in her seat. The bus driver then informed his company and the police were called. Both of them then ensured the suspect remained in the bus until the arrival of the police shortly after.

If convicted, the suspect faces a jail term up to five years, a fine, caning, or a combination of penalties. In an earlier statement on Wednesday, the police said they had arrested a 46-year-old man who is believed to have molested a 15-year-old on a bus.
