SINGAPORE – A 25-year-old man was arrested on Oct 29 for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Buangkok Green.
The police said that they received a report at about 9am on Oct 27 about a parked motorcycle at a carpark that was purportedly stolen.
Through ground inquiries and the use of CCTV and police cameras, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division were able to identify the man and arrest him.
The stolen motorcycle was also recovered, added the police.
The man is expected to be charged in court on Oct 30 over the theft of a motor vehicle. If convicted, he can be jailed up to seven years and fined.
The police advised all motorcycle owners to park their vehicles in well-lit areas, install an anti-theft alarm for their bikes and use a canvas to cover their vehicles and secure both ends.
Owners should also use additional locking devices, such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard.
Removing the ignition key and locking bikes whenever they are left unattended as well as avoiding leaving spare keys inside the bike’s storage box are also recommended.
