SINGAPORE - A 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly molesting a 42-year-old woman in Hougang on April 13.
The police said in a statement that they were alerted to the case near Gerald Drive at about 8.40am.
Through follow-up investigations and images from police cameras, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division identified the man and arrested him within 15 minutes.
A Facebook user shared in a post on the SG PCN Cyclist Facebook group on April 13 that a woman was allegedly molested by a man along a pedestrian walkway near Gerald Drive while she was walking home.
The man, who was described as wearing a red T-shirt, had allegedly approached the woman from behind and held her by the waist.
In response to the incident, Ang Mo Kio GRC MP Ng Ling Ling said on April 14 that she will be looking at ways to improve safety in the area and urged residents to be alert to such cases.
“Singapore is one of the safest countries in the world,” she wrote in a Facebook post.
“I’m confident we remain very safe in our constituency despite such an isolated incident. We track crime rates in our neighbourhood with the police monthly. Please let’s also continually look out for one another.”
The man is expected to be charged on April 15.
If found guilty of outrage of modesty, he may be jailed up to three years, fined and caned.
