A horrific crash in Changi Coast Road on Friday claimed the life of a 45-year-old Malaysian truck driver who was having a meal with an acquaintance by the side of the road.

Police said the accident, which occurred at about 5.30pm, involved a tipper truck, a container truck and a car.

The car and the container truck were parked along the road when the tipper truck crashed into the two vehicles.

The Sunday Times understands that the container truck driver, Mr Zailee Othman, and another man were eating by the roadside when the tipper truck swerved in their direction after colliding with the vehicles. The acquaintance escaped in time, but Mr Zailee was pinned under the truck. He was extricated and pronounced dead at the scene.

The tipper truck driver, a 36-year-old man, was taken conscious to Changi General Hospital.

According to Shin Min Daily News, Mr Zailee's container truck had broken down along the road, and mechanics went down in the car to repair the truck. His sister-in-law told Shin Min at the mortuary yesterday that he had four children, aged four to 14.

There have been several accidents in Changi Coast Road in the past year. Last September, a 38-year-old man was killed in an accident involving a lorry and two tipper trucks. In April, a 32-year-old man died after the lorry he was in crashed into a stationary trailer.
