In a shop in Upper Thomson, a lone worker presses his industrial drill against the floor, breaking the tiles underfoot. Passers-by hurry past, giving him a wide berth as they cover their ears. The worker has no earplugs or muffs on.

This is even though earplugs are required for work sites where the noise level exceeds 85 decibels. Beyond 100 decibels, both earplugs and earmuffs are needed.
