Little India Riots: Police install 26 more CCTV cameras in Race Course, Buffalo roads

The police on Tuesday, started installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the vicinity of Race Course Road and Buffalo Road, where Sunday's riot in Little India occured.

"A total of 26 CCTV cameras will be installed in the vicinity," said a police spokesman in a statement on Wednesday. "This is part of police's initiatives to enhance security measures in the area and deter potential perpetrators."

Race Course Road and Buffalo Road meet close to the heart of Sunday's melee involving 400 rioters who ran amok, attacking police and Singapore Civil Defence Force officers who were responding to a fatal traffic accident near Tekka Lane.

The Straits Times understands that the 26 CCTV cameras were installed in addition to exisiting cameras that are already operational in the area.
