Little India Riot: DPM Teo commends SCDF officers who responded to riot

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean and MP Vikram Nair on Thursday visited Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers who had responded to the Little India riot on Sunday.

The visit took place at the Marina Bay Fire Station where DPM Teo, who is also Home Affairs Minister, expressed his appreciation to more than 60 emergency responders, primarily paramedics and firefighters, who provided medical assistance and evacuation, and put out the fires during the incident alaong Race Course Road.

Twelve SCDF officers, including two female officers, were injured when the unruly mob attacked them as they were carrying out their duties, said the SCDF in a statement on Thursday night. "All officers have since recovered from their injuries."

During the visit, DPM Teo commended the SCDF officers, saying: "Your mission is to help others and save lives. Even in a very challenging situation, you carried out your duty because you knew that there were people who needed help. You have shown a strong sense of duty and purpose, and dedication to your mission."
