Little India Riot: Case against 32-year-old Indian national adjourned for 2 more weeks

The case against Chinnappa Vijayaragunatha Poopathi, one of 25 Indian nationals accused of taking part in the Little India riot last year, was adjourned on Friday for two more weeks.

The 32-year-old will return to court on Jan 24 as police complete their investigations into the violence that occurred along Race Course Road on Dec 8. His case will be heard again on Jan 24.

Meanwhile, three other Indian nationals facing charges for their alleged roles in the riot have filed a formal complaint of police assault with the Internal Affairs Office (IAO).

The three were arrested at separate places on Dec 8, but all alleged they were physically assaulted, and subjected to insults and threats, to get them to admit to their roles in the riot. Investigations by the IAO into the allegations are ongoing. Statements from the three have also been taken after they raised the allegations in court.
