Lexus driver in Bugis crash fined $8,000 and gets 3 year driving ban

The driver of a Lexus car involved in a dramatic crash at the junction of Victoria Street and Rochor Road in May last year was fined $8,000 and banned from driving for three years on Tuesday.

Kelvin Seah Koon Yong, 31, who works for a seafood supplier, was driving home after having drinks with his friends when he ran a red light along Victoria Street. He collided first into a taxi and then a car. The passenger of the cab was taken to hospital and given outpatient treatment.

Seah had pleaded guilty to drink driving and dangerous driving earlier this month. In sentencing on Tuesday, traffic court judge John Ng noted that Seah did not slow down and instead sped up at the junction.

However, the judge also noted that the amount of alcohol in Seah's body, 42 mcg per 100 ml of blood, which was 7 mcg above the prescribed limit of 35 mcg, was "on the low side".
