The Vulnerable Adults Bill passed last week will make it easier for the Government to protect seniors and people with disabilities from abuse and neglect. It will allow the authorities to enter private premises, assess a person's well-being and move him to safe places such as shelters and disability homes.

Previously, the Government did not have such powers and a lot depended on families and the community to flag concerns of any ill-treatment.
