Job fair offers 500 positions at Jurong Lake District

SINGAPORE - Five hundred job openings, brought on by new developments in the Jurong Lake District, were available for application at a job fair organised by the South West Community Development Council (CDC) on Tuesday.

The fair, organised in partnership with the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), offered positions in various sectors for residents seeking to work nearer Jurong.

Three of the main companies involved in the development - Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, Genting Hotel Jurong and Big Box - also offered training opportunities and flexible working hours to cater for stay-at-home mothers and mature workers looking to return to the workforce.

Mayor of South West District Low Yen Ling said: "Jurong Lake District's rejuvenation will bring new opportunities and exciting potential for residents to work, play and live in the South West District."

As well as local residents looking to work closer to home, others were willing to commute further.

Bedok resident Maznah Bakron, 58, who has been looking for a job for four months said: "Opportunities can be anywhere."
