Naval serviceman Jason Chee, who was involved in an accident last month that severed both his legs and his left arm, will have all of his medical and rehabilitation expenses covered.
In a Facebook post today on the Defence Ministry's Cyberpioneer page, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said that Mindef and the Singapore Armed Forces will be "giving our full support for the long term".
Dr Ng, who visited Mr Chee in Changi General Hospital's high dependency ward on Friday, also revealed that doctors from the Singapore Armed Forces have also been in touch with specialists in the US military, who have experience in rehabilitating veterans with lost limbs.
The minister added that he was "touched and impressed by [Mr Chee's] resilience and fortitude".
"Despite some difficulty in breathing, Jason's first words were to thank me for visiting him," he said in his post.
Mr Chee, who was able to breathe on his own for the first time last week, was caught between a motorised winch and a berthing rope onboard warship RSS Endeavour last month.
