Many factors affect why the prices of the same food or drink can vary from area to area in Singapore and even from stall to stall in the same hawker centre

A plate of chicken rice from a hawker stall in Marsiling costs a mere $2. But the same item can be sold for double that price at Maxwell Food Centre.

Even among the six Hainanese chicken rice stalls at Maxwell, a standard serving of the dish commands different prices - from $2.50 to $4.
