About 840,000 Singaporean HDB households will receive the next instalment of the GST Voucher - Utilities-Save rebates this month.

Those living in one- and two-room HDB flats will be able to offset about three to four months of utilities bills on average with the total rebates given annually, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said yesterday. Those living in three- to four-room HDB flats can offset about one to two months of utilities bills on average, MOF added.

The GST Voucher scheme is given in three parts - the cash component, Medisave and Utilities-Save (U-Save). The scheme aims at helping lower- and middle-income households with their expenses. The U-Save component is distributed every quarter.

Eligible Singaporean households will each receive a U-Save rebate of up to $65, depending on their HDB flat type. Members of the public can call SP Services on 6671- 7117 for more information on U-Save.

Alternatively, they could send an e-mail message to: spservices@singaporepower.com.sg. Details of the GST Voucher can also be found at www.gstvoucher.gov.sg.

Separately, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) issued an advisory yesterday to warn the public about an e-mail scam. Some members of the public have received an e-mail from a person known as "Chen Ping" who claimed to be an ICA duty officer and used the e-mail address ping.chen@ica.sg.

In the e-mail, the scammer asks that the recipient make payment for goods and services tax (GST) to redeem their postal articles detained by the ICA.

A spokesman for ICA said: "The ICA does not issue tax invoices requesting GST payment. A police report has been made. Members of the public who received such an e-mail scam may also wish to make a police report." For more information on dutiable goods, go to www.customs.gov.sg.
