Unpaid, no diplomatic immunity, yet honorary consuls serve as Singapore's eyes, ears abroad

Unpaid. No diplomatic immunity. Yet, 33 successful businessmen and professionals from across the globe spend hours each week advancing Singapore's economic and political interests. From Amman to Dublin, honorary consuls-general act as Singapore's eyes and ears on the ground, and help Singaporeans overseas where the Republic has no diplomatic missions. Senior political correspondent Grace Ho speaks to three of these volunteer diplomats.

"Being their local guardian, I represent them at university events and support their needs at all levels," he said.

He cited his success in getting his country's education ministry to grant Singaporean students the same financial and educational facilities it gives to Jordanian students.
