Wage council seeks feedback from public

The National Wages Council, which issues annual guidelines on salary-related matters, will begin deliberations next month, and is seeking views from the public.

Comprising employers as well as union and government representatives, the council considers factors such as Singapore's economic performance, the domestic and global economic outlook, and labour market conditions before making its recommendations.

Members of the public are invited to give their take on what could be included. Feedback should be received by April 18.

Indonesian defence force chief honoured

General Gatot Nurmantyo, the commander-in-chief of the Indonesian National Defence Forces, has been conferred the prestigious Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) - or Meritorious Service Medal (Military) - by President Tony Tan Keng Yam. The award was presented by Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen yesterday.

Gen Gatot was given the award for his contributions as former chief of staff of the army. Both countries' armies have increased mutual understanding and inter-operability through bilateral exercises.

New Chief of Air Force assumes command

Brigadier-General Mervyn Tan Wei Ming officially assumed command as the new Chief of Air Force yesterday, taking over from the outgoing chief, Major-General Hoo Cher Mou, at a Change of Command Parade at Tengah Air Base.

BG Tan joined the Singapore Armed Forces in 1990.
